What is GATE?
GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is an All-India examination conducted by '7' IITs & Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore on behalf of the National Co-ordinating Board, known as 'GATE BOARD' under the Dept of Education, MHRD, Govt of India. GATE 2012 will be held by IIT Delhi.
What is Score Card?
Score card is a deed which will be sent only to GATE passed candidates. The Score card provides the following information:
(a) GATE Score (b) Percentile Score (c) Rank
The gate score, not only presents the mark scored by the candidate out of 100 but also on the general performance of the candidates as well as the performance level in the previous years.GATE Score of a candidate is a statistical performance index showing the ability of the candidate. The formula which evaluates Gate score is:
GATE SCORE = 10[ag + sg {(m - a)/s}] where
ag = Global average
sg = Global standard deviation
m = mark scored by the candidate
a = average score in the present examination.
s = standard deviation of marks in the present examination.
In general, the GATE Score and ability level are related as follows:
GATE Score Range Ability Level
850-1000 Out Standing
700-850 Excellent
600-700 Very Good
450-600 Good
350-450 Above Average
300-350 Average
If a candidate is able to score 55 to 65 range of mark out of 100 in the Examination,his Score Shall be above 98%, GATE score will have 2 year validity.
(a.) GATE 2012 results will be announced on March 15, 2012 on GATE websites of IISc and seven IITs.
(b.) GATE 2012 score is valid for Two Years from the date of announcement of the GATE 2012 results.
